From booking early to what shoes to leave at home, here is the complete Temecula wine tour checklist our hosts wish every first-time guest had before they arrived.
Quick Answer: Before your Temecula wine tour, you need to handle five things: book your tour early (weekends fill up three to four weeks out), eat a real meal before you start tasting, wear comfortable shoes and layers, bring your ID and a portable phone charger, and know what is included in your tour price so there are no surprises. If you book with Van'N Boozy, most of this checklist takes care of itself. We handle all winery reservations, include all tasting fees in the price, provide snacks and water on the bus, and give you a local host who manages every detail of the day. Tours start at $119 per person with no hidden fees.
Planning a wine tour should not feel like homework. This checklist breaks everything down into what to do before the day, what to bring, and what to know so you can show up relaxed and ready to enjoy Temecula Wine Country without a single thing to worry about.
This is the most important item on the checklist. Weekend tours in Temecula, especially Saturdays during spring through fall, fill up fast. If you have a specific date in mind, lock it in early. Friday and Sunday tours have more availability but still book up during peak season. Weekday tours are the most flexible and can sometimes be booked on shorter notice.
When you book with Van'N Boozy, call us at 951-401-1001 or submit a request at vannboozy.com. We will confirm your date, time, group size, and meeting location. Once it is booked, you can plan the rest of your trip around it.
If you are going with a group, get a firm headcount before you book. Your group size determines how many buses you need and which tour options are available. Van'N Boozy accommodates 2 to 21 guests, with each vintage VW Bus seating 7. Groups larger than 7 caravan together on the same route. The 3-Stop Private Wine Tour requires a minimum of 4 guests Monday through Thursday and 5 guests Friday through Sunday. The 2-Stop Shared Wine Tour has no minimum.
Not all wine tours include the same things. Before you book with any operator, confirm whether tasting fees are included or charged separately at each winery, whether there are service fees or surcharges at checkout, and whether lunch is included or optional.
At Van'N Boozy, every tour includes all tasting fees at every winery, transportation in a vintage VW Bus, a local host, all winery reservations, complimentary snacks and water, Bluetooth sound system access, scenic backroad routes, and bottle purchase discounts. There are no hidden fees. The price on the tour page is the price you pay. The only additional costs are food if your group chooses to order at a winery and gratuity for your host.
Van'N Boozy tours meet at locations in Old Town Temecula or in wine country, depending on which tour you book. The 2-Stop Shared Wine Tour meets at a wine country location. The 3-Stop Private Wine Tour and Wine and Beer Tour can meet at Old Town Temecula (right off I-15) or a wine country location, with custom pickup available from Temecula hotels and Airbnbs for a small additional fee.
If you are driving from San Diego (about 60 minutes), Orange County (about 60 to 75 minutes), Los Angeles (about 90 minutes), or Palm Springs (about 90 minutes), plan your departure time so you arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour starts.
Eat a real meal before your tour. This is the tip our hosts emphasize more than any other. Wine tasting on an empty stomach shortens your day and dulls the experience. Have a proper breakfast or lunch with protein before you arrive.
On the 3-Stop Private Wine Tour, we build extra time into one stop so your group can order food if you want. Many of the wineries we visit have food options ranging from full restaurants to food trucks to charcuterie boards. The cost of food is not included in our tour pricing, which keeps the tour price honest and lets you eat what you want rather than paying for a mandatory lunch you did not choose.
A valid ID for everyone in the group. Every winery checks IDs. You must be 21 to taste. No exceptions.
Your phone and a portable charger. You are going to take a lot of photos and videos. The vintage VW Bus, the vineyard backdrops, and the group moments at each winery are all going to end up on your camera roll and your social media. A dead phone battery in the middle of the tour is a preventable tragedy.
A credit or debit card. Some wineries are cashless. You will want a card for bottle purchases at the wineries (our guests receive discounts at every stop) and for food if your group orders lunch.
Sunscreen. Temecula sun is strong year-round, but especially from May through October. You will be outside on winery patios and walking between the bus and the tasting rooms. Apply before you leave and bring extra for reapplication.
Sunglasses. Between the vineyard patios, the open-air VW Bus, and the backroad drives, you will want them.
A light jacket or cardigan. Temecula weather can shift throughout the day. Mornings can be cool, midday warms up, and the afternoon ocean breeze cools things down again. Tasting rooms alternate between sun-drenched patios and air-conditioned interiors. Layers keep you comfortable no matter what.
If you feel like dressing up, fun sunglasses and groovy attire all photograph great with a vintage VW Bus as the backdrop.
A small notebook or your phone's notes app if you want to remember which wines you loved. With up to 18 tastings across three wineries, it is easy to forget which pour was the one you want to order a case of later.
Outside alcohol. Open containers are not allowed on tour vehicles, and with up to 18 wine tastings across three stops, you will not need it. Trust us.
High heels and stilettos. Winery grounds include gravel, stone patios, and grass. Comfortable shoes are a must.
Heavy bags or large coolers. Travel light. Your host manages the logistics and the bus has space for bottles you purchase along the way.
Stress about the plan. If you booked a Van'N Boozy tour, we handle all winery reservations, routing, pacing, and details. You do not need a backup plan. You do not need a spreadsheet of winery phone numbers. You just need to show up.
Temecula Wine Country is casual. Nobody is wearing a suit or a cocktail dress to a tasting room. The vibe is laid-back California, and your outfit should match.
For warm months (May through October): Sundresses, lightweight pants, shorts, casual tops, and breathable fabrics. A hat for sun protection if you plan to spend time on outdoor patios.
For cooler months (November through April): Jeans, light sweaters, casual layers, and a jacket for morning and evening. Winter days are mild by national standards but the mornings and the breeze can be cool.
For any season: Comfortable shoes you can walk in for several hours (flats, wedges, block heels, clean sneakers, or strapped sandals). Something you would not panic about if it got a drop of red wine on it.
If your group is coordinating outfits for a bachelorette, birthday, or celebration, the most common approach is white for the guest of honor and a matching color for everyone else. The vintage VW Bus makes an incredible backdrop for coordinated group photos.
Here is a typical timeline for a Van'N Boozy 3-Stop Private Wine Tour:
60 to 90 minutes before the tour: Eat a proper meal. This is non-negotiable.
30 minutes before the tour: Leave for your meeting location. Give yourself a buffer for parking and getting settled.
15 minutes before the tour: Arrive at the meeting location. Meet your host. Get on the bus. The adventure starts.
During the tour (about 4 hours): Three winery stops with tastings, a lunch stop, scenic backroad drives, snacks and water on the bus, and your playlist on the Bluetooth speakers. Your host handles every detail.
After the tour: Explore Old Town Temecula, grab dinner, visit a craft brewery, or head home. The rest of the day is yours.
For the 2-Stop Shared Wine Tour, the same timeline applies with a shorter tour window of about 2.5 hours.
A few things to keep in mind for after your Van'N Boozy tour wraps up.
If you are driving home, give yourself time to hydrate, eat, and feel fully ready before getting on the road. Many groups hang out in Old Town Temecula after the tour, grab coffee or a meal, and head home once they are comfortable.
If you bought bottles at the wineries, make sure they are stored safely for the drive home. Wine does not love heat, so if it is a hot day, keep bottles inside the air-conditioned car rather than the trunk.
If you found a wine you love and forgot to buy a bottle, most Temecula wineries ship directly. Check their website or call the tasting room.
And if you had an amazing time (you will), leave your host a review. Our Van'N Boozy hosts put their heart into every tour, and your feedback helps other guests find us.
2-Stop Shared Wine Tour: $119 per person. About 2.5 hours, two wineries, up to 12 tastings. No minimum group size.
3-Stop Private Wine Tour: $164 per person. About four hours, three wineries, up to 18 tastings, lunch stop. Your group gets the entire bus.
Wine and Beer Tour: $164 per person. Same as the 3-Stop Private with a craft beer option at one stop.
All tours include all tasting fees, a vintage VW Bus, a local host, snacks, water, scenic backroads, and no hidden fees. Non-drinkers are welcome with ride-along pricing at $24 to $35 off.

Bring a valid ID (required at every winery), your phone with a portable charger, a credit or debit card for bottle purchases and food, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light tote bag for any bottles you buy. A light jacket or cardigan is smart for temperature shifts throughout the day. On a Van'N Boozy tour, we provide complimentary snacks and water, so you do not need to pack food.
Dress casually and comfortably. Sundresses, jeans, casual tops, and light layers all work well. Wear comfortable shoes with good footing since winery paths include gravel, stone, and grass. Skip stilettos. Bring sunglasses and a hat for sun protection. Avoid wearing anything you would worry about staining with red wine.
Book at least three to four weeks in advance for Saturday tours, especially during spring through fall. Friday and Sunday tours have slightly more availability. Weekday tours are the most flexible. For special occasions with larger groups, booking even earlier is recommended to secure multiple buses on your preferred date. If you’re already in town and looking for a last minute trip, please contact us and we’ll do our best to get you on one of our amazing tours.
Not if you book a guided tour. At Van'N Boozy, we handle all winery reservations for every tour. We select the wineries, coordinate arrival times, and manage all logistics so your group does not need to plan anything beyond showing up at the meeting location on time.
After your Van'N Boozy tour, you are dropped back at your meeting location. Many guests explore Old Town Temecula for dinner, drinks at local craft breweries, or shopping along the historic main street. If you are driving home, give yourself time to hydrate and eat before getting on the road. The drive to San Diego is about 60 minutes and to Los Angeles is about 90 minutes.
